The evening included initiation activities, followed by encouraging and humorous presentations from each year group and was closed off with refreshments for all.
The second year’s got the ball rolling with an informative look at the giants the first year’s may face entering this new chapter. They used David fighting Goliath as an example and how he carefully selected the stones with which he was going to slay the giant. Practical examples like assignments, deadlines, procrastinating and harboring sin in one’s heart and other possible giants were mentioned. Different stones can be used to tackle the different giants – we need faith, and a close relationship with our Lord, sin needs to be exposed and brought to the light.
Encouraging the first year’s to become a united team, the third year’s depicted a linked chain to represent this theme. Since this college aims to training missionary teachers, the unity among each other as well as with other believers is an important characteristic which we would like to pass on to our students.
With a comical twist, the fourth year’s staged a puppet show, introducing different lectures and duties that form part of life at College.
To close off the evening, the stage was given to the first year’s to introduce themselves. They did so by means of a quiz to test the audience’s knowledge of each first year.
As the Cultural Committee, we trust that the first year’s feel well-equipped for the year ahead.
