Our History - The Cedar Tree

Cedar College of Education is accredited to North West University which means that CCE teaches the programmes (courses) of the NWU. The degrees are issued by the North-West University and conferred at a graduation on the campus of Cedar College of Education.

The name Cedar means "firmly rooted and strong" (a derivative of an old Arabic word).
The Cedar (the king of the trees) is mentioned 75 times in the Bible. Those in Lebanon were the most prominent. It is a magnificent tree often growing up to 40m in height and up to 9m in circumference.
King Solomon used these cedars in many of his buildings, especially in the temple (1 Kings 6:15). Scripture refers to them as "high and lifted up" (Isaiah 2:13). They symbolically suggest grandeur, beauty, power and majesty.
There are many lessons we can learn from the Cedar tree:
The heart of the trunk is a reddish colour, symbolising a heart that has been cleansed by the blood of Christ
The exterior is whitish, symbolising a life holy and without blame
The wood, bark, etc. is filled with resin oil or the sap of life. This is symbolic of our whole
bodies being a living sacrifice, filled with the Spirit of life
It is tall, stately and very beautiful to behold, the shade a favourite for weary travellers. This is
symbolic of one's stand and service for the Lord, manifesting and magnifying His beauty
It is our aim to embody these attributes in the students of Cedar College of Education.

SANCTUS DEO

Similar to the words of Zechariah 14:20, it is our constant daily desire that every person and everything at Cedar College will be Sanctus Deo - Holy To the Lord.
